Islam and Human Rights

The awareness of the Arab States about the need to adapt their legal systems, in accordance with international human rights law, happened at the end of the 1970s. Since that date, the Arab-Muslim area has produced various declarations on human rights (Aldeeb Abu-sahlieh, 1997: 473), among which: The Organization's Declarations on Human Rights in the Islamic Conference of 1979, 1981 and 1990 (the latter known as the " Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam ", Resolution No. 49/19-P). The Arab Charter on Human Rights, adopted on 09-15-1994, at the Council of the League of Arab States, Resolution No. 5437.           The " Universal Islamic Declaration on Human Rights" of September 19, 1981, has been prepared by the Council of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and compiled by Islamic jurists and by representatives of the various schools of Islamic thought, under the guidance of the UNESCO.
