Importance of Parents in Islam

Respect for parents is a fundamental principle in Islam.When asked who teaches us the most, those who were present for us through difficulties, those who laughed with us in good times, those who presented with us in our travels, most of them found our parents Think about it and it’s true: our parents are the ones who have been with us in almost everything in our lives.

It takes our mother nine expensive months before we are born, and then for at least eighteen years, our parents make a list of things, take care of us, educate us, help us, and help us financially and Provide educationally. 

However, unfortunately, many people do not treat their parents as they deserve. Young people often fight with their parents, often on very trivial topics.

Other teens neglect their parents instead of spending time with their friends or online. As we get older, we forget that our parents are growing up, and when we start our own family, they are forced to live on their own or in a nursing home. This is not only an injustice to our parents, but it is also strictly forbidden in Islam. God commands us to treat our parents with the utmost respect, regardless of our circumstances.

The first commandment in this verse is the worship of God, not of anyone else. This is the first and most important pillar of Islam, and connecting with God is an unforgivable sin. The next decision is kindness to the parents. There are other great sins in Islam that can be mentioned here, but the God who forbade us here is insulting our parents. We are told not to speak insultingly to them: the word given in Arabic is "off", and even mocking them is forbidden.


It is so important to treat one's parents with respect and dignity that even if they do not obey God, we will treat them kindly. God said in the Quran,

Even if our parents try to make us do the worst thing in Islam, we should do them justice. Islam has no idea of ​​leaving our parents, even if they are infidels. To make this point clearer, there is a saying of the Holy Prophet (sws) narrated by Asma, the daughter of Abu Bakr, a good friend of the Holy Prophet (sws).

Although we must expressly respect both our parents, our mothers are given special treatment in Islam. This is because our mothers raised us for nine months, and were our primary caretakers when we were children.

In a statement by Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (peace be upon him), a companion asked him who wants the best treatment and respect? The Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi and Sallam) replied, "Your mother." The fellow asked again, and then the answer was "Your mother." The companions asked for the third time, and once again the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi and Sallam) said, "Mother." When the companions asked for the last time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "Father."

This is never should to say that our fathers do not deserve respect. The story of Abraham in the Quran tells us that his father was ready to destroy and kill religious idols if he renounced the infidel religion. Instead of losing his power, Abraham simply prayed to God to have mercy on his father and help him find the truth. Many youth nowadays use vulgar slogans if their father speaks harshly to them. From our prophet we learn that it is never acceptable, whatever it may be.


Finally, there are many ways to improve your relationship with your parents. First and foremost, we need to remember the importance of our parents in our lives, and various verses that remind us to be kind to them. Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (peace be upon him) also has many things to teach us how to deal with them. In one tradition, he compared parental care to fighting like a god, the best a Muslim can do in his life. In other words, we are told that smiling for our parents is like performing Haj in Mecca.

We should make a habit of doing these small things in our daily lives. Talking to your parents on a daily basis, no matter how old we are, is a way to close any gaps that we may have. Finally, it is always important to pray for your parents. We have been told that the prayers of many people, including the child's prayer for parents, will always be answered.
